Dexter Wrestling Club Coaches:Level 1Steve Moorman This year will be my 11th year with the club and 10th year coaching. All three of my kids participated in the DWC at one point or another. The people I have met along the way have become like family. I hope that you will have the same experience. Let me tell you a little about my background. I was born and raised in southwest Iowa near Omaha, Nebraska. Wrestling is a huge part of the Iowa culture (the Iowa vs. Iowa State wrestling dual meet was televised on prime time). I started wrestling when I was in 2nd grade and continued until I graduated from high school. Although I did not wrestle in college, I attended Iowa State University where I regularly went to collegiate dual meets and Big 8 tournaments. In those days either Iowa or Iowa State took the NCAA championship nearly every year, so I felt lucky to witness so much great wrestling. Upon getting my B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, I moved to Michigan to pursue a career in the automotive industry. For the last 23 years I have worked as an engineer for GM designing and developing automatic transmissions at Willow Run, Milford Proving Grounds, and Powertrain Headquarters in Pontiac. My experiences participating, witnessing, and coaching wrestling have shaped my philosophies. I firmly believe that participating in wrestling is a great opportunity to teach our kids fundamental life lessons such as hard work pays off, you get out what you put in, and you must believe in yourself to succeed. It is truly a character building activity in every sense. I have also learned that if not properly conducted, there is a high risk of burnout because it can be very challenging, both physically and mentally. That is why my highest priority will be to make this sport FUN for your kids. My approach is to teach fundamentals through a series of games, drills, and challenges. I like to engage the kids in the teaching sessions, letting them help demonstrate. I also like to challenge them to think about “why” they are doing a move a certain way. I want them to be able to wrestle from their brain every bit as much as their body. Above all I want them to have fun. I appreciate this opportunity to coach your child. I am looking forward to getting to know you and your wrestler. We are going to have a very fun season. Go Dexter Wrestling! Level 2Bret Marsh
